Chapman's Parole Denied For The Ninth Time

Mark David Chapman, will remains behind the bars of New York's maximum security Wende Correctional Facility, after his parole request denied for the ninth time. Chapman, who is now 61 years old, an obsessed fan of the musician and his former group the Beatles, was convicted of shooting Lennon John Lennon at his apartment building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on December 8, 1980 in New York. Chapman received a sentence of 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree of murder. His petition for parole has come out every two years since 2000.

In August, the New York Daily News reported that there had been five people who write letters to the parole board for Chapman release. At the hearing, the board recognizes Chapman's supporters, and his strong efforts through institutional records and rehabilitation efforts. “In spite of many favourable factors, we find all to be outweighed by the premeditated and celebrity-seeking nature of the crime,” the New York Board of Parole said in a statement on Monday.

“From our interview and review of your records, we find that your release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate that seriousness of the crime as to undermine respect for the law.” said the New York Board of Parole.
