Maryville‬ Police Shot to Dead

A police officer of Maryville was shot and died on Thursday afternoon after responding to a domestic disturbance call along Alcoa Trail in Blount County about a suspect with a gun. The policeman was declared dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. The shooting suspects, Brian Keith Stalans (44) has recently been arrested and are being interrogated.

Police did not release the identity of the officer since the entire family of the victim had not been notified.

Maryville police chief, Tony Crisp urged public to pray for the officer family when he carry out a press conference outside the emergency room by sundown. Furthermore he said,"We would ask our citizens to remember this officer's family. He has three small children. It's a very trying time for his family, it's a trying time for the men and women of the Maryville Police Department, it's a trying time for the law enforcement of this community."

The shooting takes time around 4 p.m. on Kerrway Lane off Alcoa Trail. When polices arrived at location, they stopped around 70 yards distance behind the house and managed to take the victim to a safe place. The victim himself is the Stallan's father. Then the polices took cover behind their car while waiting for help and watching the house. As they were taking cover, Stalans fired from the garage and hit neck of Maryville officer. He was rushed to UT Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. According to the chief, earlier in the day, the suspect had been reported but not arrested. But he didn't explain why no arrest was made.
