LTE Modem from Intel that had been used by Apple in most variants of their new generation of smart phones like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, claimed to have speed performance that is not better than LTE modem made by Qualcomm. Based on the results of a series of tests performed by Cellular Insight at various distances from cell towers (via Apple Insider, LTE modem from Intel in iPhone 7 Plus variant has performed nearly 30 percent below the LTE modem from Qualcomm.) Interestingly, the LTE modem from Qualcomm mentioned has download speeds faster than the LTE modem from Intel even in a state of poor signal.
Network performance of iPhone 7 Plus modem incorporates with LTE modem from Intel also less quickly than other smartphones, like iPhone 6s, LG G5, Google Nexus 5X, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that achieve the highest score. To ensure the results achieved by LTE modem from Intel in the iPhone 7 Plus is not defective, Cellular Insights bought a second unit. But the results reported are not much different.
Compare this with the LTE modem from Qualcomm that supports not only the GSM network, but also a CDMA network that makes the user can easily switch from one network to a different network. Apple is reportedly using two models of LTE modem from Qualcomm and Intel to achieve consumer demand for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. But in fact, the performance of these two LTE modem are very different.
