Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Dies

Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej has reportedly passed away on Thursday (13.10.2016) at the age of 88 years, says the statement of the Kingdom of Thailand to Reuters. "His Majesty has passed away peacefully at Siriraj Hospital," the palace said, adding he Died at 15:52 (4:52 a.m. ET). King Bhumibol, the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty, is the longest-serving monarch in the world after Thailand's official throne him in 1946.

Over the past 10 years, the health condition of the king who has been in power for 70 years continues to decline. And this year for the first time, doctors asked King Bhumibol "released" from state duties.

During his ruling, Bhumibol witnessed 17 military coups, including two coups in the last 10 years, namely against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (2006) and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra (2014). Most likely, the position of Bhumibol will be replaced by crown prince, Prince Vajiralongkorn (64), which is the only son from the marriage of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit.
